Celebrity Thursday: Charlize Theron

May 28, 2009

TODAY’S BUZZ TIP | May 28, 2009

Charlize Theron has proven to be more than just a pretty, okay, gorgeous face.  Somehow she managed to look unattractive for her role in Monster for which she nabbed an Academy Award.  If you ask me, those makeup folks should have gotten an Oscar too.  And she’s also not afraid to speak her mind and advocate for others.  She’s currently campaignly fiercely against Proposition 8 in California which bans same sex marriage.  You go girl!  Outspoken, compassionate and gorgeous — she’s definitely someone I would want on my team.

Media Wednesday: Mastheads

May 27, 2009

TODAY’S BUZZ TIP | May 27, 2009

There are many different sources you can cull from when developing your media list.  One of the greatest and most obvious sources, sometimes overlooked, is the magazine’s masthead.  The masthead lists every staff member of the magazine from the Editor in Chief up top, to the technology staff down below.  In between you will find all of the editors for each category within the magazine.  For a magazine like Real Simple, for instance, it includes food, beauty and health, fashion, home and style. You won’t find the email addresses for them on there but that’s where I come in.  The email order is:
firstname_lastname@realsimple.com.

Key Words

May 26, 2009

TODAY’S BUZZ TIP | May 26, 2009

Today it’s all about Key Words.  As I’ve written previously, having the right amount of key words in your press release is extremely important: too few and you risk not getting picked up by search engines; too many and you may be tagged as spam.  Key words are also important in helping to reinforce your message.  And as you may have noticed, when you sign up to a new social networking site, you are often asked to list your company’s key words.  I challenge you to come up with at least 10 key words for your company and then reinforce them in all of your communicates from your website to releases and everything in between.  Some examples of key words if you happen to be an Aerospace information site:

Aerospace
History of Leonardo Da Vinci

Wright Flyer
Aeronautics
History of flight
Electronic library
Rocket history
Aircraft design
Aerospace engineers

And if you want to check out the key words of other top companies or your competitors, you can do so on www.keywordspy.com.

Celebrity Thursday: Johnny Depp

May 21, 2009

TODAY’S BUZZ TIP | May 21, 2009

Oh Johnny!!  Few actors are as versatile as Mr. Johnny Depp.  From playing a scissor-clad weirdo in Edward Scissorhands to probably his most famost role of Jack Sparrow in the Pirates of the Caribbean blockbusters.  He throws himself full throttle into every role and it shows.  His passion for life is also as strong.  Lots of leading ladies have crossed his path but one French lady in particular stole his heart.  He’s a true leading man and devoted father.  He’s also been voted as one of the actors most beloved by fans.  Apparently, he never refuses a fan who asks for an autograph. Ridiculously good looking and nice.  What more could you ask for?
