TODAY’S BUZZ TIP | February 3, 2009
If you want to get on an editor’s good side and up your chances for coverage, then get to know him/her. Pick a media outlet that is on the top of your wish list, get familiar with their editorial style and interest, then pick a column that you feel would be a perfect fit for your company/product. The next step is the tricky part: crafting the perfect pitch — one that will get the editor’s attention, pique their interest and ultimately lead to a story. It wouldn’t hurt either if you referred to one of their articles in your pitch. A little flattery goes a long way in this business. In the end, editors love companies/publicists that do their homework before contacting them. This may seem like common sense but sometimes the obvious eludes all of us. So get back to basics. It’s a great place to start!
Correction: In yesterday’s Daily Buzz I wrote that Momlogic gets 1.3 unique visitors a week. I meant 1.3 million of course. And check out SpringWise, www.springwise.com. A hit on this business blog resulted in a ton of traffic to a client recently.
Stay tuned for more great tips and tell your friends. Spread the Buzz!
