TODAY’S BUZZ TIP | March 3, 2009
We all know that helping others and donating to charity is good and feels good. Charity tie-ins and events are a great way to generate goodwill and build awareness for your brand.
First choose an issue that’s close to your heart, then choose a charity and get involved. Here are some ways:
All major charities have an annual gala or events throughout the year that they seek sponsors for. Find out about the events and what the costs are for sponsorships. Meet with the event organizers and discuss opportunities.
If you manufacture products then choose a particular item and donate a percentage of sales to your charity. For example, pink products abound during October which is Breast Cancer Awareness Month. Call one of the breast cancer charities and find out how you can partner by developing a special pink product or inclusion of the pink ribbon on your packaging. Then promote on your site, write a press release and tell your customers about the promotion. Also, editors are always looking for these products for inclusion in their October issue. The opportunities for press are huge.
Choose a charity that jives with your company’s philosophy and fits with your products. For instance, Oeuf, designers of stylish, modern furniture and clothing for children, just teamed up with Baby Buggy, founded by Jessica Seinfeld. Baby Buggy donates gently used baby items to moms in need in the NY area. It’s a perfect fit.
So find a charity that fits, and start generating some goodwill. It’s good for everyone!
