Guerrilla II: Get Personal

TODAY’S BUZZ TIP | March 10, 2009

Yes, I practice what I preach.  I went to a trade show yesterday and did my own guerrilla marketing.  What struck me was how great it was to just talk to people.  Today with email, facebook, Twitter and all the other “social” ways on the web to connect, we have forgotten the art of in-person networking and actual conversation.  Yes, what an idea, actually meeting people and talking?  So try and join organizations, go to an industry event at least a couple of times a month and just mingle.  A big plus is that you’ll make some great contacts, and possibly new friends, while you are spreading the word about your business.

One other thing.  Instead of sending yet another email, send a nice, handwritten note.  Have some note cards designed and printed with your company logo and use them to send thank you’s, follow up messages or just an invitation to a party or event.  The “novelty” of this will make you and your company stand out.  So bring back the art of the letter and traditional networking, it will do wonders for your business and social life.
