Know Your Competition

With so many companies competing for an editor’s attention how do you differentiate yourself from the crowd?  The first step is to know who your competitors are and how they position themselves.  Do they say that they are the best, the first, the leading, etc.?  Then figure out what your positioning is.

What are your company’s or product’s differentiating factors?  Is your product based on a unique theory or philosophy or lifestyle?  Is it proprietary?  Do you have a patent?  Are you the pioneer, the first, to develop the product in your industry?  Also, check out how your competition is promoting itself.  How do they position themselves in press releases and on their website?  The key is to know them well so you can differentiate yourself.

So do your research, know your competition and begin developing your unique positioning.
