Buzz-Worthy: Masala Baby

When I think of India I immediately envision the bright, vibrant colors of not only the lush landscape and buildings but also the saris donned by its beautiful women.  Now there’s a clothing company for children that stylishly captures the essence of India, Masala Baby.

Based in Brooklyn, Masala Baby takes the essence and traditions of India and infuses it with a modern and urban vibe.  It’s a breath of fresh air and welcome relief from “cartoon fashiion” and other not so original offerings for kids.  The look is modern yet eclectic — but best of all it’s fun and totally wearable.  Masala baby also works with indigenous artisans in India to develop their signature handloom fabrics and prints.

The new Fall collection will be available on their site starting in August, just in time for you to send your kid back to school in style!  Here’s a rundown of the different collections and their inspirations.

Mela Masala-
Inspired by gypsy folklore, mosaic tiles, the pink stone architecture of Jaipur, and dancing peacock (the national bird of India), Masala Baby presents signature prints, unique fabrics and colors in this exciting new Mela Collection.

Mod Masala-
The collection is urban, mod, and relaxed for globetrotting toddlers and children — new age travelers who embody the wonder and simplicity of life.  The words that come to mind are: peace, journey, friendship, innocence, urban and of course love. Khadi fabric is changing the world one thread at a time — Indian homespun handwoven fabric with natural properties that keep you warm in winter and cool in summer.

Sizing is 6 – 12 and 12- 18 months for babies, and sizes 1,2,3,4, and 6 for toddlers and for boys and girls.
